Journey 2: The Mysterious Island Movie Review

journey 2 the mysterious island

This movie is riddled with cheese everywhere and it’s important to remember it’s not the best movie for non-families to watch. The film will entertain kids about 12 years-old and under. It feels allot like a ABC family show with built-in morals and lessons like, ‘don’t abandon children’ and ‘kids need to be open minded about accepting stepparents’.

It’s actually hard to believe Dwayne Johnson took up this role in between movies Fast Five and G.I. Joe Retaliation. He plays a goodie-goodie stepfather trying to smooth out his relationship with his stepson. The advice he gives and ‘gag me with a spoon’ comedy is too much to bear and will have you rolling your eyes no time. Another shocker is veteran actor Michael Cane is in the movie playing Sean Anderson’s grandfather. He’s got charm and wit, the only way Michael Cane can do it, but with a unadventurous storyline these two actors took a spill for the worse.

The film feels more like a Disney ride with its 3D effects. And maybe that’s what the movie was really all about, entertaining a young family with some colorful CG effects by hopping on a bumblebee ride. Unfortunately for the ticket price, anyone over 12 should save it for a real amusement park.

Movie Description

In this follow-up to the 2008 Journey to the Center of the Earth, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island begins when Sean Anderson (Josh Hutcherson) receives a coded distress signal from a mysterious island where no island should exist. It’s a place of strange life forms, mountains of gold, deadly volcanoes, and more than one astonishing secret. Unable to stop him from going, Sean’s new stepfather, Hank (Dwayne Johnson), joins the quest. Together with a helicopter pilot (Luis Guzman) and his beautiful, strong-willed daughter (Vanessa Hudgens), they set out to find the island, rescue its lone inhabitant and escape before seismic shockwaves force the island under the sea and bury its treasures forever.
