Pebble E-ink Watch for Your iOS and Android Smart Phones

The Pebble is perhaps one of the most suitable accessories we’ve seen for the Android and iOS platform ever emerge out of Kickstarter.

The display technology is E-ink, which means you can not only view this watch in direct sunlight, but battery life is decent at what is a purported 7 days. Don’t worry, there is a backlight for viewing the screen at night. The Pebble connects to your Android or iOS device over Bluetooth and can vibrate when you have an incoming call, text message or email.

They’ve built an SDK for those that would like to create apps for the device, which load via the handset over Bluetooth. But upon launch you’ll be able to view data associated with biking and running, control your music and even review your distance to the hole on the golf course since they’ve teamed up with Freecaddie. Needless to say the Pebble will also tell time and you’ll be able to change the type of display that best fits you. And while you won’t be able to view text messages directly from your iOS device, Android will support this.

Other features and specs include a 3 axis accelerometer with gesture detection (think sleep monitor), 4 buttons, a 144 x 168 pixel display black and white e-paper, Bluetooth 2.1 +EDR and a water resistant build (splashing, rain, sweat, etc).

Pricing for the Pebble watch starts at just $99, though odds are they’ve exceeded that early bird special. In fact, they received over $100k from the Kickstarter community in just 2 hours time!
