G.I. Joe Retaliation Review

G.I. Joe Retaliation makes a leap into an attempt at a good movie. It’s not there just yet, but does have it’s moments. The 2009 film G.I. Joe The Rise of Cobra was considered one of the worst films of the year, so there really wasn’t anywhere to go but up.

Most of the characters fall into the personas of our favorite 80’s military toy characters, but lack depth. The story arcs try to reveal more about the Joe’s however only Roadblock’s history stood out. The addition of Bruce Willis brought in more attention being a big hollywood name, but that’s as far as it goes.

Finally! Cobra Commander looks the way he should instead of of the weird looking thing he was in the last film. I like Joseph-Gordon Levitt as a actor but the design team really messed up his appearance in the first film. Thankfully the new Cobra Commander struts his appearance well.

The most enjoyable things in the film are the ACTION. It’s beautifully coordinated and the use of slow motion to capture the action sequences are delicious! Probably some of the best usage of 3D out there.

I can understand why they released the film earlier rather than contend with the blockbuster movies coming out this year. Let go of high expectations and enjoy it for what it is. Yo Joe!
