Iron Man 3 Review

Prepare for more of the things you love about Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) in his reprising role as Iron Man.

Iron Man 3 is the first solo character film since the release of Avengers last year. You’d imagine the results of the movie would have some bearing in Iron man 3 and it does. The results of the Avenger’s battle with Loki’s (or Thanos) cosmic force changes Tony Stark’s outlook on how to prepare for the alien invaders. He’s obsessed and a bit unraveled about how to deal with protecting the planet.

When you’re too focused on a problem you can’t fix you need a distraction to give yourself a break. The film diverts into a extraordinarily entertaining path that includes A.I.M. (Advanced Idea Mechanics) and the evil Mandarin (what a tweaker)! This was a smart move to keep the identity of the film unique to Tony’s life and play up more of what is to come when we do see the Avengers 2.

I’m impressed with the director and writers willingness to give us a different kind of Iron Man we have not seen. What I mean by this is that the Iron Man suit presence shares a smaller amount of screen time allowing Tony Stark to go all commando in the flare only he could bring. You think he’s handicapped without the suit and all of the sudden he’s at the hardware store proving you wrong! Tony Stark is brilliant and flavorful no matter where he is or what he has.

While we are at it… Pepper Potts (Gwenyth Paltrow) steps up her role, not only as a supporting love interest for Tony, but literally his savior with a uprising tenacity. There’s a future for her in the Avengers, I can feel it in my bones and that says allot about her in Iron Man 3.

The only thing I wished for is that Tony’s obsessive production of suits got a bit more spotlight, like the Silver Centurion which was hugely popular in the 1980’s comic books. It gets screen time, but you wish you could see them all in action a little bit more intensely.

There are twists, surprises and many clues as to what Iron Man really is NOW. I can’t wait to see what fruits of Iron Man 3’s story will be appearing in the next Marvel film. It’s funny, charismatic and will leave you feeling good. As always, stick around after the credits to see a additional scene…I don’t think there are any references about the next film, but maybe you’ll find it before I do.
